What is a Matterport Survey?
A Matterport survey produces an immersive, user-friendly, photo-realistic model of a building and smaller outside areas. The Matterport allows for quick capture of data and speedy translation into a layout which the user can easily navigate via Matterport cloud hosting.
Matterport cameras use structured-light or LiDAR sensors depending on model and are also capable of producing point cloud outputs and interactive measurement tools. Although not as accurate as a true survey-grade scan (from a Leica RTC 360 for example), they can are a highly useful and versatile tool in the field of reality capture.

When Do I Need a Matterport Survey?
Matterport models are particularly useful for:
- Marketing and Estate Agency (virtual tours)
- Documentation of build progress
- Immersive visualisation
- Remote access
Deliverables:
Matterport surveys can be used to provide a broad suite of deliverables including:
- Matterport 3D Showcase (“Virtual Tour”). A web-hosted URL link that allows anyone to “walk through” the property. This includes:
- Dollhouse View: A zoomed-out, rotatable 3D view of the entire structure (stripping away the roof/walls).
- Measurement Tool: Built-in tool allowing users to measure walls, doors, or furniture directly within the browser (accurate to within ~1%).
- Mattertags: “Hotspots” placed within the tour that contain text, links, or videos (e.g., tagging a boiler with its service manual).
- High-resolution photos
- 2D floorplans (in the format of your choice)
- Point Cloud
- 3D mesh
- Revit models up to LOD 200
